Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team lost their second straight contest Saturday afternoon in a 65-61 defeat at Shawnee State (Ohio) University in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Sophomore guard Jordan Weidner was the only bright spot on a rather poor offensive day for the Wildcats. Weidner scored a season –high 27 points in the loss on 9-of-16 shooting. No other Wildcat reached double figures.
Indiana Wesleyan (9-2) received just two points combined from its top two scorers this season, juniors George Jones IV and Patrick Hopkins. Despite only two points for Hopkins, the forward did grab a career-high 19 boards.
The Wildcats struggled to 40.8-percent (20 of 49) shooting on the day and 57.7-percent (15 of 26) from the foul line.
Shawnee State (8-3) led the entire game, building a 25-9 lead late in the first half. A late run brought the score to 28-21 at the half. Indiana Wesleyan continued to fight from behind, trailing by as many as 10 points in the final two minutes. Indiana Wesleyan cut the lead to three points with less than 30 seconds left before missing a basket in the paint. SSU hit the next two free throws to ice the victory.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 15 at Saint Xavier (Ill.) University.
