Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University senior outside hitter Peyton Thompson has been recognized as the NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week.
The honor is the first in Thompson's career and the first Mid-Central College Conference volleyball player to win it this season. She is also the first Indiana Wesleyan student-athlete to receive the NAIA national player of the week this season.
Thompson averaged 19.0 kills per match last week which is higher than her previous single-match career high of 18 kills. Indiana Wesleyan defeated Bethel (Ind.) College 3-0 on Wednesday night and finished regular season play with a 3-1 win over No. 12-ranked Taylor (Ind.) University.
On her Senior Night, Thompson destroyed her previous career-high with 26 kills in a 3-1 victory over Taylor. She earned a .579 hitting percentage in the win that brought a close to Taylor's 53-match win streak in MCC regular season play. Against Bethel, Thompson added 12 kills in a quick three game victory.
The Plano, Texas native was selected out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among the 23 conference/independent/ unaffiliated groupings.
Indiana Wesleyan has won its last 13 matches and 25 of their last 26 overall. IWU is currently ranked No. 15 in the NAIA with a 31-4 record.
