Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer had its season come to a close Wednesday in a 3-2 double overtime loss at Cedarville (Ohio) University in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament semifinals.
A later rally by Indiana Wesleyan forced overtime, but CU's Timmy Waller scored the golden goal in the 107th minute to send Cedarville into the regional final versus Grace (Ind.) College.
The Yellow Jackets controlled the first half of play and entered halftime up 2-0. The first goal came in the 13th minute while the second came with just six seconds before the horn.
Cedarville continued to pressure Indiana Wesleyan but IWU keeper Zach Hammon was solid in keeping the deficit at just two goals. Hammon finished the night with 10 saves.
Indiana Wesleyan finally cracked the Cedarville defense in the 79th minute when Ross Tanzer headed home a corner kick from Josh McKinley. Just over five minutes later, Tanzer used his head again for a goal in the 85th minute. Geoff Bowman took a free kick which found Tanzer for the match-tying goal.
Cedarville was able to put a pair of shots on goal during the first five minutes of overtime. But the best opportunity came in the 99th minute when Tanzer just missed a hat trick with a shot off the post.
Neither team was able to create any offense during the first five minutes of the second overtime. But in the 106th minute the Yellow Jackets placed two shots on goal and earned a corner kick. Off the corner kick in the 107th minute, the Yellow Jackets put a shot towards goal that Waller would collect and place into the goal for the golden goal.
Cedarville finished with 21 total shots with 14 on goal. Indiana Wesleyan ended with six shots and four on target.
Indiana Wesleyan sees its season come to an end with an 11-10-1 record while Cedarville improves to 13-6-0.
