Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- No. 3-seed Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University scored two goals in the last 17 minutes of play to survive No. 6-seed Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer in the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament First Round in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Amanda Woods scored the eventual game-winning goal for Mount Vernon Nazarene in the 74th minute of action to break a scoreless tie. Sara Lipstraw added an insurance goal in the 80th minute to secure a spot in the MCC Tournament Semifinals for the Cougars.
The loss comes as the Wildcats were playing some of their best soccer of the season. IWU won its final three MCC contests to even its conference record at 4-4-1 entering the MCC Tournament. The three match win streak tied a season-high.
Mount Vernon outshot Indiana Wesleyan 13-10 on the afternoon and held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Indiana Wesleyan sophomore keeper Rachel Fulkerson earned five saves, including four during the first 45 minutes to help keep the score 0-0 at halftime.
MVNU advances to the MCC Tournament Semifinals and will play at No. 2-seed Grace (Ind.) College next Saturday. Mount Vernon Nazarene improves their mark to 9-7-2 this season while Indiana Wesleyan drops to 9-9-1.
