GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The annual Georgetown (Ky.) College Boneyard Brawl is annually held the weekend before Halloween, and the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team was frighteningly exceptional on Friday against a pair of highly successful teams.

No. 20-ranked Indiana Wesleyan handed each Walsh (Ohio) University and No. 10-ranked Indiana Tech just their fourth losses of the season.

Indiana Wesleyan (27-4) opened the afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Walsh by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 31-29. IWU then beat highly ranked Indiana Tech for the second time this season in four games. IWU won 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23.

In the opener against Walsh (21-4), senior middle hitter Peyton Thompson paced the Wildcats with 15 kills while sophomore middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht added 11 kills and senior outside hitter Kate Denlinger contributed 10. Junior setter Yui Iwase finished with a double-double against Walsh with 39 assists and 12 digs.

Defensively, the Wildcats held the Cavaliers to .069 hitting. Senior libero Kelsey Masuda collected a match-high 21 digs in the tournament's opener and sophomore defensive specialist Rebecca Brandes had 10. IWU blocked six Cavalier shots, led by senior middle blocker Lauryn Barfell with two solo and two assists.

In the second match on Friday, Indiana Wesleyan defeated Indiana Tech (29-4) for the second straight meeting. Both times Indiana Tech was ranked in the NAIA top-10.

Thompson and Denlinger shared the honors for most kills in the match with 19, Thompson doing so with a .400 attacking percentage, and both ended with double-doubles.  Thompson also had 14 digs while Denlinger added 17. Iwase totaled 59 assists in the win.

Defensively, Indiana Wesleyan compiled 118 digs as six different Wildcats tallied double digit digs. Masuda once again led the team with 28, Brandes added 19, junior defensive specialist Jordan Sudzina with 16 and Iwase with 13 along with Thompson and Denlinger. As a team, IWU blocked nine Indiana Tech attack attempts and Barfell once again was the main culprit with two solo and five block assists.

Indiana Wesleyan served six aces against the Warriors. Brandes and Denlinger led the way with two apiece.

The Wildcats advance their win streak to nine in a row and have now won 21 of their last 22 matches. IWU will attempt to win two more matches tomorrow during the final day of competition at the Boneyard Brawl. The Wildcats will play Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University at 9:30 a.m. and Shawnee State (Ohio) University at 3:30 p.m.
