Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Spring Arbor (Mich.) University provided a stiff challenge in the Mid-Central College Conference opener for the Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon. No. 10-ranked Indiana Wesleyan was up to the test and won 2-1 after following behind early.
"I am very pleased with how we played tonight," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Dr. John Bratcher. "The girls played very well tactically and played with a lot of heart. We were able to move the ball well to all parts of the field which really spread them out."
Spring Arbor, a team receiving votes in the new NAIA Top-25 Poll, captured an early 1-0 in the eighth minute.
The Wildcats would answer with the tying goal later in the half. Sophomore forward Kylie Dial connected on the equalizer with the assist from junior forward Tori Lee. The score remained 1-1 into the half.
In the second half, freshman midfielder Sarah Wilkins scored her second career goal for the 2-1 Indiana Wesleyan advantage. Senior forward Megan Marshall assisted on the game-winning score.
Indiana Wesleyan now stands 7-2-0 on the season and improves to 1-0-0 in the MCC. Spring Arbor falls to 7-4-0 and 0-1-0 in the conference.
The Wildcats will next take the pitch at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 2 with a Homecoming match against Walsh (Ohio) University at Wildcat Field.
