Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Four Wildcats totaled double digit kills Saturday evening to lead Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball to a 3-1 victory over Goshen (Ind.) College at Luckey Arena.
Freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes, sophomore outside hitter Brooke Atwell and junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger all contributed 12 kills while junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson added 11. Freshman middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht added eight kills as Indiana Wesleyan finished the night hitting .268 as a team.
Indiana Wesleyan dropped the first set after holding a lead late. But IWU rebounded with three strong sets to win the four set match by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-18.
Egebrecht led the Wildcats defensively at the net with five block assists as the team earned two solo blocks and 18 block assists. Thompson had a solo and four block assists and Brandes chipped in with one solo and three assists.
The Brandes twins once again led the team in digs with 17 apiece. Junior Kelsey Masuda added 10. Sophomore setter Yui Iwase collected 50 assists on the night.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 8-7 this season and 2-3 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Goshen drops to 8-9 overall and 2-5 in conference action.
The Wildcats return to the court on Wednesday, September 29 at Grace (Ind.) College in Winona Lake, Indiana. The match is schedule to begin at 7 p.m.
