MARION, Ind. -- The final day of the Best Western Wildcat Volleyball Classic was a sweeping success for Indiana Wesleyan University at Luckey Arena.

Indiana Wesleyan opened Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Cedarville (Ohio) University by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-19. IWU completed the Saturday sweep against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University with a 3-2 victory by scores of 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 19-25 and 15-10.

The pair of wins on Saturday gave the Wildcats a 3-1 weekend to improve to 7-6 on the season. The lone blemish on the weekend came Friday to No. 23-ranked Malone (Ohio) University in a match that went the five set distance.

Cedarville dropped their first match of the classic Saturday morning to Indiana Wesleyan following a pair of wins on Friday over Trinity International (Ill.) University and Goshen (Ind.) College. Cedarville is now 6-4 on the season.

Freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes once again led the Wildcats in kills with 13 for the match with a .407 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Atwell also hit double digit kills in the victory with 11. Freshman middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht tallied five kills on 13 attempts (.385-percent) and earned one solo block and two block assists.

Sophomore setter Yui Iwase dished out 33 assists and added nine digs while freshman libero Rebecca Brandes led the team with 14 digs.

Rae Brandes totaled 15 kills and a .302 hitting percentage along with 16 digs in the five set win over Mount Vernon Nazarene (17-2). Junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson added 11 kills and Atwell had 10 in the finale. Thompson led the team at the net defensively with five block assists and one solo block.

Rebecca Brandes accumulated 24 of the 87 digs for the Wildcats while Rae Brandes was next with 16. Junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger served three aces and Thompson added another two while Iwase amassed 46 assists.

Indiana Wesleyan's next match will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 23 in a Mid-Central College Conference showdown at Marian (Ind.) University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
