Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Cedarville (Ohio) University scored in the third minute of overtime to defeat Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer 3-2 on Saturday night in the final match of the Dave Jones Memorial Classic hosted by Cedarville.
Indiana Wesleyan twice overcame one goal deficits to tie the score during the first half.
Cedarville scored in the third minute for the early 1-0 advantage. Indiana Wesleyan hit the equalizer in the 15th minute when Mitch Lobdell scored off an assist from David Trainer.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead in the 30th minute off a penalty kick. Once again the Wildcats responded with a goal to tie the score 2-2. Kyle Meier headed home a crossing pass from Erik Johnson in the 35th minute as the score would remain tied through regulation.
Cedarville scored the golden goal just 2:07 into overtime to clinch the win 3-2.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Wildcats 17-12 on the evening and held a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal. IWU junior goalkeeper Nick Platt earned seven saves in the losing effort.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 2-4 this season while Cedarville improves to 3-2.
The Wildcats return home next weekend with a pair of matches. On Friday at 7 p.m. the Wildcats battle Asbury (Ky.) College and then on Saturday at 7 p.m. IWU will host Aquinas (Mich.) College.
