Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana University-East defeated host Indiana Wesleyan University 3-1 in their home opening match on Wednesday night in Luckey Arena.
In their first match of 2010 at Luckey Arena, IWU dropped the four set match by scores of 25-19, 13-25, 20-25 and 19-25.
Junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson led Indiana Wesleyan with 14 kills and a .455 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes added nine kills in addition to seven digs and a team-leading four blocks.
Freshman defensive specialist Rebecca Brandes collected 15 digs and junior defensive specialist Kelsey Masuda served two aces on the evening. Sophomore setter Yui Iwase passed out 35 assists.
The Wildcats are now 3-2 on the season. IU-East, a program receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches Poll, improves to 11-0 on the season.
Indiana Wesleyan's next match will open Mid-Central College Conference play as IWU travels to play Spring Arbor (Mich.) University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8.
