Box Score 2 LAKEVILLE, Ind. -- No. 3-seed Indiana Wesleyan University softball could not follow up on its victory over Taylor (Ind.) University in its next two games at the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament in Lakeville, Indiana.
No. 2-seed Bethel (Ind.) College knocked off Indiana Wesleyan 3-1 to force IWU into its third game of the day. There, Indiana Wesleyan dropped a 9-1 decision to No. 4-seed Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
The pair of losses eliminates the Wildcats from the double-elimination tournament. Indiana Wesleyan was unable to muster much offense in their three games, scoring one run in each.
Against Bethel, the Pilots plated a run in the second and two more in the fifth inning for a 3-0 advantage. IWU scored their only run in the sixth inning on an RBI from catcher Molly Yothment that scored shortstop Katie Berkemeier.
Katie Hall pitched a complete game for the Wildcats. She allowed three earned runs on six hits while giving up two walks and striking out three. Leftfielder Katie Brummett was 2-for-3 at the dish and accumulated half of the Wildcats' hits in the game.
Spring Arbor finished the tournament run for Indiana Wesleyan in a 9-1 game that lasted just five innings.
The Cougars scored three runs in the third, four in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning. SAU outhit IWU 14-to-2 as five different Cougars had multi-hit games.
Yothment once again collected the only Indiana Wesleyan RBI, scoring centerfielder Tamara Davis in the fourth inning. Designated player Erin Abrams had the other IWU hit in addition to a walk.
Hall was the losing pitcher in the game as she allowed three runs on eight hits in 2-2/3 innings pitched.
Indiana Wesleyan (30-17) will complete their season on May 13-15 in the NCCAA National Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida.
