Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball had little trouble on Tuesday afternoon in earning a doubleheader sweep of Mid-Central College Conference foe Goshen (Ind.) College at Wildcat Field.
The Wildcats won by scores of 4-0 and 9-4 to increase their season-best win streak to five in a row.
Junior starting pitcher Nicole Clark needed little help in the 4-0 opener. She scattered three hits in four innings of work while striking out six. Clark gave way to junior Katie Hall for the final three innings and she only allowed one hit and struck out seven.
Indiana Wesleyan did their damage with two run innings in the second and third. For the game, IWU outhit Goshen 12-to-4.
Sophomore first baseman Abbie Forman was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Sophomore centerfielder Tamara Davis was a home run shy of the cycle as she finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple.
Sophomore leftfielder Kelsey Decker ended 2-for-3 with two runs scored while senior second baseman Christy Gibson and junior rightfielder Katie Brummett also delivered two hits in the win.
Hall did a little bit of everything in game two to help Indiana Wesleyan to the sweep behind a 9-4 victory.
Hall once again came in to pitch in relief after starting pitcher Forman struggled in the fourth inning. Forman gave up three runs in the inning before Hall entered the game. She snuffed out the rest of the Goshen rally but the Maple Leafs led 3-2.
Indiana Wesleyan scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-3 lead. Goshen scored one run in the fifth, but IWU responded with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the 9-4 victory.
Hall pitched a total of 2-2/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits. She did now walk a batter and struck out three.
In addition to excellent relief work, Hall did damage with the bat. Hall, with her first two at bats of the season, was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
Decker continues to swing a hot bat as she was 3-of-4 from the dish with two RBI and one run. Senior second baseman Robyn Coffer added a 2-for-3 performance with a pair of runs scored.
Indiana Wesleyan will take their five game win streak into Bethel College at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 8 in Mishawaka, Indiana. Bethel is currently ranked No. 4 in the NAIA.
