Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball advanced to the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament championship game on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory Spring Arbor (Mich.) University in Cedarville, Ohio.
Top-seed Indiana Wesleyan played No. 2-seed Spring Arbor, who earlier in the day defeated No. 3-seed and host Cedarville (Ohio) University, in the double elimination tournament. Spring Arbor and Cedarville will play later on Friday with the winner to play IWU on Saturday.
Indiana Wesleyan continued to receive stellar pitching from Katie Hall, who threw a no-hitter on Thursday night against University of Saint Francis (Ind.). Hall held Spring Arbor to a single run on seven hits and one walk while striking out three.
The Wildcats built a 2-0 advantage with single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Cougars scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning that cut the deficit to 2-1. The Wildcats added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth for the 3-1 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan was outhit by Spring Arbor 7-to-5 in the game, but took advantage of five Spring Arbor errors, leading to two unearned runs.
Leading the IWU offense was third baseman Melissa Kimmel. She pounded out three hits in three at bats with a double and a run scored. Centerfielder Tamara Davis finished 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI while first baseman Abbie Forman ended the afternoon 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan will play in the regional final tomorrow at 11 a.m. against the winner of Cedarville and Spring Arbor. If Indiana Wesleyan loses that game, the two teams would play again at 1 p.m. for the automatic berth to the NCCAA National Championship.
