Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- Senior Day provided a pair of shutout victories on Thursday afternoon as Indiana Wesleyan University softball swept visiting University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at Wildcat Field.
Wildcat junior Katie Hall opened the doubleheader in style with a five inning no-hitter in an 8-0 victory in game one. Game two provided a second shutout of 2-0 for the sweep.
Hall pitched all five innings in the opener which did not see a Cougar hit all game. She walked three and struck out six as the Wildcats won in a five inning run rule.
The Wildcats plated three runs in the fifth inning to enforce the mercy rule. IWU scored a run in the second inning and added four more in the fourth.
Senior third baseman Melissa Kimmel showcased a big bat on Senior Day with a five RBI performance. She was 3-for-3 at the dish with a double and one run scored. Rightfielder Katie Brummett added a 2-for-3 game with a double and two RBI.
The second game's starting pitcher for Indiana Wesleyan, Abbie Forman, followed Hall's dynamic performance with a four-hit shutout. Forman did not walk a batter in the complete game and racked up six strikeouts. She helped herself at the plate going 2-for-3.
Leftfielder Kelsey Decker connected on a two-run double in the third inning to account for all the scoring in the game. Senior catcher Christy Gibson was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run as Indiana Wesleyan outhit Saint Francis 10-4 in the game.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 27-13 this season and 11-3 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Saint Francis stumbles to 14-26 and 4-8 in the conference. With the two wins, Indiana Wesleyan clinches at least third place in the MCC.
The Wildcats get right back at it on Friday, April 23 at the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament in Cedarville, Ohio. IWU is the top-seed in the three team, double elimination format.
