Box Score 2 JOLIET, Ill. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball plated 24 runs in two games Friday as the Wildcats won both games at the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) Tournament in windy Joliet, Illinois.
Indiana Wesleyan won a wild 14-13 affair in nine innings over Mid-Central College Conference for University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in non-conference action and finished the day with a 10-2, five inning victory over host Saint Francis (Ill.).
In the high scoring first game the teams combined for 29 hits and 11 errors as the wind played a major factor which Indiana Wesleyan came back to tie or take the lead in the final three innings.
Saint Francis led 7-6 as the game went into the bottom of the seventh inning. Indiana Wesleyan scored the tying run to force extra innings. Saint Francis scored one run as once again IWU answered with a solo run to push the game into the ninth inning.
USF (7-12) looked to put the game away with a six run ninth inning. But in unbelievable fashion, IWU scored seven run to stun Saint Francis for the 14-13 win.
All nine Wildcat starters recorded a hit, led by sophomore first baseman Abbie Forman. She went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore leftfielder Kelsey Decker lead all players with a 3-for-5 performance with a run and a RBI.
Senior shortstop Katie Berkemeier was 1-for-3 at the plate with two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored.
Indiana Wesleyan finished the Friday sweep of two Saint Francis teams by quickly dispatching the host Saints (6-13). IWU scored three runs in the first and added five more in the second for a quick 8-1 advantage. Indiana Wesleyan plated two more runs in the fourth for a 10-2 lead and for the five inning run rule.
Senior first baseman Molly Yothment was 2-for-4 at the dish with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored. Senior catcher Christy Gibson also homered and finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
Sophomore centerfielder Tamara Davis was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored, two stolen bases and a run scored. Decker added a 2-for-3 game with a double and two RBIs.
Forman and sophomore Erin Moeller combined for two runs on five hits in five innings. Forman was the winning pitcher as she gave up one run in three innings of work with two strikeouts.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 15-11 this season after winning five of their last six games.
IWU will continue play at the Saint Francis (Ill.) Tournament on Saturday with games against Iowa Wesleyan College and Goshen (Ind.) College.
