Box Score 2 KISSIMEE, Fla. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball continued the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida on Friday by earning a split in games with St. Xavier (Ill.) University and Walsh (Ohio) Univeristy.
The Wildcats suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of St. Xavier before rebounding for a 4-0 shutout of Walsh to finish the day.
St. Xavier combined four straight hits in the first inning to amass their two runs. Indiana Wesleyan cut the lead in half in the seventh inning off a home run by sophomore first baseman Abbie Forman. IWU could not plate the tying run despite the stellar pitching from junior Nicole Clark.
Forman pitched a dominating six innings in the Wildcat win over Walsh in the nightcap. She scattered three hits to earn the win.
Sophomore centerfielder Tamara Davis had a triple and a RBI while senior first baseman Molly Yothment added a double and a RBI. Senior Christy Gibson contributed a hit, a sacrifice, a stolen base and a RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan will complete their Spring Break trip to Florida on Saturday with a pair of games. IWU will play last year's NCAA DIII national runner-up Coe (Iowa) College at 9 a.m. and finish the trip with an 11 a.m. first pitch against Webster (Mo.) University.
The Wildcats are now 5-3 on their trip to Florida for a 6-6 record overall.
