Box Score 2 HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University split a Mid-Central College Conference softball doubleheader at Huntington University on Tuesday afternoon in Huntington, Indiana.
The Foresters shutout the Wildcat 5-0 in the opening contest but IWU earned a split with a 4-1 game two victory.
Indiana Wesleyan ran into Huntington ace Molly Long in the opening contest and Long shutout IWU on four hits in seven innings while striking out eight.
Huntington (7-9, 1-1 MCC) scored early in the game to pull out their first conference victory this season. HU scored two runs in the second and added three more in the third inning.
In the second game, Indiana Wesleyan quickly jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning and coasted behind a strong pitching performance from sophomore Abbie Forman.
Forman allowed one run on three hits in the seven inning complete game. She walked just two and struck out 11 Foresters.
Senior first baseman Molly Yothment led the Wildcat offense with two doubles and two RBIs. Sophomore Tamara Davis added a pair of hits and two runs scored while senior catcher Christy Gibson scored one run and had a stolen base.
Indiana Wesleyan (13-11, 3-1 MCC) stretched their lead to 4-0 with single runs in the third and sixth innings. Huntington finally cracked the scoreboard with one run in the bottom of the sixth.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play in the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Joliet, Illinois.
