MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball followed two shut outs on Saturday with a huge 34 run output on Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep over Taylor (Ind.) University at Wildcat Field.

Indiana Wesleyan won big in game one by a 19-2 margin but was forced to overcome a five run deficit to take game two by a 15-9 score.

In the opener, Indiana Wesleyan plated 10 runs in the first inning before recording one out, en route to an 11 run inning. IWU would score three more in the second and five in the third.

Starting pitcher Nicole Clark was the recipient of the scoring barrage to collect the victory. She allowed two unearned runs on two hits in three innings of work. Katie Hall finished the game by not allowing a hit in two innings of relief while striking out four.

Four different Wildcats had multi-hit games in the win, led by second baseman Christy Gibson. She was 3-for-3 with one RBI and four runs scored. Gibson also had a double and a stolen base.

Shortstop Katie Berkemeier was also 3-for-3 while knocking in four RBI. She had a double and two runs scored. Third baseman Melissa Kimmel ended the contest 3-for-4 with two RBI and three scores.

Rightfielder Allison Reichard was the fourth Wildcat with multiple hits as she ended 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.

In the nightcap, Indiana Wesleyan was forced to overcome an 8-3 deficit in the fourth inning. IWU would close the gap to 8-6 in the home half of the fourth inning before tying the score at eight in the fifth inning.

An explosive seven run sixth inning allowed the Wildcats to capture the doubleheader sweep by a 15-9 score.

Six Wildcats earned multiple hits in the game, once again led by Gibson. She was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI.

Designated player Dana Runyan also had three hits while knocking in three runs and scoring a pair. Centerfielder Tamara Davis, first baseman Molly Yothment, second baseman Robyn Coffer and Kimmel all racked up two hits in the win. Davis had three RBI and three scores.

Abbie Forman earned the win despite allowing five runs - four earned - in four innings of work.

Indiana Wesleyan improves to 12-10 this season and 2-0 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Taylor now stands 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Wildcats return to action at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 25 as IWU travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana to battle Indiana Tech.
