Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University softball team struggled on Saturday to score any runs as the Wildcats lost both games to complete the IWU Tournament.
Davenport (Mich.) University earned an 8-0 victory in five innings over IWU while Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University won 2-0 in the final game.
In the first game on Saturday for Indiana Wesleyan, Davenport scored three runs in the third inning and earned the five inning win with a five run fifth inning for the 8-0 decision.
Senior second baseman Christy Gibson, senior shortstop Katie Berkemeier, senior catcher Molly Yothment and sophomore first baseman Abbie Forman all had one hits for Indiana Wesleyan. Berkemeier's hit was a double.
Junior Nicole Clark was the losing pitcher. She allowed three runs on three hits over four innings of work.
In the tournament finale against Olivet Nazarene, Indiana Wesleyan racked up more hits by a 6-to-5 margin. But Olivet Nazarene scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings for the 2-0 victory.
Forman went the distance for Indiana Wesleyan, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on five hits. She did not walk a batter and earned five strikeouts.
Junior rightfielder Katie Brummett led the offense for Indiana Wesleyan with a 2-for-3 performance and a double. Sophomore centerfielder Tamara Davis, sophomore leftfielder Kelsey Decker, freshman designated hitter Dana Runyan and senior second baseman Robyn Coffer all had one hit in the loss.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 10-10 this season while Davenport improves to 19-6 and Olivet Nazarene is 16-2.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the field at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23 as the Wildcats open Mid-Central college Conference play with a home doubleheader versus Taylor (Ind.) University.
