Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball earned a two-game split during their first day of competition at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida on Monday.
The Wildcats captured a win on their Spring Break opener with a 1-0 victory against Ursuline (Ohio) College before losing 4-3 to Walsh (Ohio) University in eight innings.
Sophomore Abbie Forman earned a complete game shutout for the Wildcats to earn her first victory of the season against Ursuline. IWU scored the lone run of the game in the second inning and Forman made it hold up.
Junior Katie Brummett opened the second inning with a walk. She advanced on base hits by senior Molly Yothment and sophomore Kelsey Decker. Senior Melissa Kimmel then hit a sacrifice fly into the outfield for the only run of the contest.
Yothment ended the game 2-for-3 with Kimmel finishing 1-for-2 with a RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan then completed day one with a loss to Walsh as the game went to the International Tie Breaker when each team begins the inning with a runner on second base.
In the extra inning, Walsh plated three runs as Indiana Wesleyan fell short with two runs.
Junior Katie Hall took the loss despite seven strikeouts. Senior Katie Berkemeier led the offense with a pair of hits.
Indiana Wesleyan is scheduled to play Saint Benedict (Minn.) University and Ursuline on Tuesday on the second day of the Spring Break Trip.
