Box Score MARION, Ind. -- No. 2-seed Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball defeated No. 7-seed Bethel (Ind.) College 3-1 tonight in the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament quarterfinals in Luckey Arena.
The Wildcats pulled out the win by scores of 25-16, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21. The victory is the third of the season against the Pilots.
Indiana Wesleyan spread the attack tonight on the offensive effort. Junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson led the team with 11 kills while freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes had nine and freshman middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht finished with eight kills. Egebrecht completed the night with a .389 hitting percentage and Thompson was at .333.
Most all the kills came courtesy of sophomore setter Yui Iwase. She had 37 of the 39 assists for the Wildcats. Indiana Wesleyan also served 10 aces versus Bethel, led by five from junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger and three more from sophomore defensive specialist Jordan Sudzina.
Junior libero Kelsey Masuda collected a team-best 22 digs while Denlinger and Egebrecht each had three block assists. Rae Brandes, sophomore outside hitter Rachel Quackenbush and Denlinger each had one solo block.
The Wildcats improve to 22-10 on the season while the Pilots drop to 20-18.
Indiana Wesleyan advances to the MCC Tournament semifinals with the victory. IWU will host No. 3-seed Grace (Ind.) College at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 11 in Luckey Arena. Grace defeated Goshen (Ind.) College in first round action 3-0 to advance in the tournament.
