Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Overtime was necessary on Saturday afternoon for Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball to collect a 48-44 victory at IU-South Bend.
The win is the first of the season for the No. 3-ranked program in NAIA Division II.
Indiana Wesleyan struggled offensively all night and scored just 36 points in regulation. Fortunately for IWU, its signature defensive effort was in excellent form.
IU-South Bend was limited to 34.2-percent (13 of 38) shooting on Saturday, including a 1-for-6 shooting performance in the overtime session. The Titans committed 16 turnovers but out-rebounded the Wildcats 30-21.
Junior Rachel Steinbarger led all players in scoring with 14. Steinbarger was 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Senior forward Elaine Hessel added 12 points and five assists while junior center Krystal Stoneking chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the court next weekend at the Cedarville University Tournament in Cedarville, Ohio.
