UPLAND, Ind. - The Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team lost a tough conference match to Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) University by a 3-1 margin on Friday night in Upland, Indiana. The loss marks the end of an 11-match winning streak for the Wildcats in Mid-Central College Conference play.
After losing the first two games by scores of 20-25 and 15-25, IWU stormed back to take the third game by a score of 25-20. However, the comeback was stopped short by the Trojans as they took the fourth game 20-25.
Indiana Wesleyan was led in kills by junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger with 15. Freshman defensive specialist Rae Brandes and junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson each contributed 10 kills. Sophomore Yui Iwase led the Wildcats with 43 assists while junior libero Kelsey Masuda led the team with 20 digs.
The Wildcats drop to 21-10 (12-4 MCC) while the No. 10-ranked Trojans improves to 31-6 (16-0 MCC).
Indiana Wesleyan's next match will be on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Luckey Arena as they host Bethel (Ind.) College in the first round of the MCC Tournament. IWU is the tournament's No. 2-seed.
