Box Score 1 CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball breezed through the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament in Cedarville, Ohio to earn the regions automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament.
After winning their pool on Friday, Indiana Wesleyan took down host Cedarville 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 26-24) in the regional semifinal and then Spring Arbor (Mich.) University 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-16, 25-13) in the championship.
Three Wildcats led the team in kills in the semifinal win over Cedarville. Freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes, sophomore outside hitter Rachel Quackenbush and junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger each totaled 11 kills. Brandes earned a .409 hitting percentage while racking up a team-best 15 digs.
Sophomore setter Yui Iwase tallied 36 assists while junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson and sophomore middle hitter Lauren Barfell had team-highs of three block assists.
Thompson followed with a huge championship match. She amassed a game-high 16 kills with a .538 hitting percentage. Thompson also added one solo block and two block assists.
Freshman middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht also contributed in a big way against Spring Arbor. She was second on the team with 11 kills and led the unit with eight block assists. Iwase tallied 44 assists, 20 digs and three service aces while junior libero Kelsey Masuda led the Wildcats with 27 digs.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 27-11 on the season while Cedarville falls to 18-20 and Spring Arbor to 19-16.
IWU will next play in the NCCAA National Tournament on December 2-4 in Kissimmee, Florida.
