Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- No. 17-ranked Cornerstone (Mich.) University handed the No. 3-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball team their first loss of the season on the opening night of the MCC/WHAC Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Host Cornerstone improves to 7-0 while Indiana Wesleyan falls to 4-1.
The Wildcats were limited to just 37.8-percent (17 of 45) shooting on the day and only 10.5-percent (2 of 19) from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Wildcats 41-23.
Senior forward Elaine Hessel paced Indiana Wesleyan with 16 points and four rebounds. She was 6-of-9 from the field. Sophomore center Krystal Stoneking was the only other IWU player in double figure scoring with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Cornerstone held a six point halftime lead at 33-27 before outscoring Indiana Wesleyan 27-17 in the second half for the 16 point margin of victory.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when IWU will play Madonna (Mich.) University in the second day of action at the MCC/WHAC Challenge.
