Box Score 2 CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball has reached the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament semifinals which will be played on Saturday in Cedarville, Ohio.
IWU won Pool A on Friday afternoon with a pair of wins. Indiana Wesleyan defeated Bethel (Ind.) College 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 29-27, 25-15) and then made quick work of Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) University 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-14).
Indiana Wesleyan defeated Bethel (20-19) for the fourth time this season behind big performances from sophomore outside hitter Brooke Atwell, junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger and junior middle hitter Lauryn Barfell.
Denlinger led the Wildcats in kills with 11 and hitting percentage at .400. Atwell added 10 kills and a .350 hitting percentage while Barfell contributed seven kills and a team-best seven block assists.
Sophomore setter Yui Iwase passed out 47 assists and junior libero Kelsey Masuda earned 21 digs. Junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson and freshman middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht each finished with eight kills.
In the final pool play match on Friday, Indiana Wesleyan had little resistance from Cincinnati Christian (19-13).
Freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes led the Wildcat with 10 kills and four digs and Denlinger added eight kills with a .438 hitting percentage. Iwase earned 42 assists, Thompson was a force at the net with five block assist and Masuda contributed 15 digs.
The Wildcats served eight aces and had a team hitting percentage of .400 to improve to 25-11 on the season.
Indiana Wesleyan will battle host Cedarville (Ohio) University on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the winner advancing to the NCCAA Regional Championship match at 2 p.m. Spring Arbor (Mich.) University will battle Bethel in the other semifinal.
