Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The streak continued Friday night in Luckey Arena as Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball downed visiting Bethel (Ind.) College in four sets for their fifth consecutive triumph in Mid-Central College Conference play.
Tonight's victory came despite a loss in the opening set 25-20. Indiana Wesleyan would sweep the final three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21.
On a night when the Wildcats' leader in kills, freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes, only tallied five, junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger and sophomore outside hitter Brooke Atwell stepped up with 10 kills apiece. Junior middle hitter Lauryn Barfell added eight and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Quackenbush contributed seven.
Barfell was also big for Indiana Wesleyan at the net. She earned one solo block and assisted on five others. Sophomore setter Yui Iwase collected the only other solo block in addition to three block assists and a team-leading 43 set assists.
Quackenbush served three aces to lead the Wildcats on Cancer Awareness Night while freshman libero Rebecca Brandes totaled 13 digs. Junior defensive specialist Kelsey Masuda aided the cause with nine digs while Rae Brandes and Iwase both had eight.
The five match win streak improves the Wildcats' conference record to 6-3 on the season and moves the team into third place in the MCC standings. Overall, Indiana Wesleyan has won seven of their last nine for a 12-8 record. Bethel falls to 14-9 on the year and 5-5 in the conference.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the court at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 with a road match at Goshen (Ind.) College.
