MARION, Ind. - IWU
women's soccer opened the first round of the MCC Tournament with a convincing 5-0
win over the University (Ind.) of St. Francis on Saturday afternoon at windy Wildcat
Field.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when sophomore
forward Kelsey Johnston scored from the center of the penalty box. Sophomore
forward Kylie Dial earned the assist on the goal. Johnston would record her
second goal in the 31st minute off of the excellent pass from senior defender
Kim Walton.
Senior forward Megan Marshall continued her stellar play as
her pair of goals increased her scoring total to 21 goals on the year. Brittany
Smith, Kelsey Johnston and Suzy Miesse received credit for an assist on
Marshall's goals.
Kylie Dial would add to the scoring in the 48th minute when
she found herself in open space near the goal off of a long pass from junior
defender Kristin Perrine. Dial's goal marks her 13th score of the season.
On the game, IWU outshot the Cougars 27-4, with a 15-1
advantage in shots on goal. Wildcat sophomore goalkeeper Beth Ann Nowak
maintained a clean sheet as she recorded the shutout.
With the victory, Indiana Wesleyan improves to 16-2-0, while
USF ends their season with a 4-15-0 record.
Indiana Wesleyan advances to the second round of the MCC
Tournament and will host a match on Saturday, November 6 at Wildcat Field.
