Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- It was a rollercoaster ride on Wednesday night for the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team but the Wildcats prevailed 3-2 over host University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan had a chance to sweep Saint Francis with wins in the opening two sets. But Saint Francis charged back with convincing victories in set three and four before IWU rebounded for the fifth set win. Indiana Wesleyan closed Wednesday with the five set wins by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 13-25, 19-25, 15-12.
The victory is the 10th consecutive for the Wildcats in Mid-Central College Conference action. Following a 1-3 start to the conference season, the Wildcats have roared back to an 11-3 mark with two matches left to play. Tonight's win clinched second place in the MCC and the No. 2-seed in the MCC Tournament which begins in two weeks.
Leading the way offensively for Indiana Wesleyan were freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes with 13 kills and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Quackenbush with 12. Sophomore setter Yui Iwase passed out 48 assists.
Defensively, junior libero Kelsey Masuda earned 25 digs. At the net, freshman middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht, junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger and junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson all had six block assists.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 17-8 on the season while Saint Francis drops to 8-14 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
The Wildcats return to action this weekend with four matches at the Boneyard Brawl hosted by Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky.
