Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball avenged an earlier loss to Spring Arbor (Mich.) University with a 3-0 victory in Luckey Arena on Homecoming Saturday.
The 26-24, 25-15, 25-16 win is the fourth straight win for the Wildcats, all in Mid-Central College Conference matches. The streak has rocketed the Wildcats up the conference standings from 1-3 to 5-3 at the midway point of the MCC schedule.
Overall, Indiana Wesleyan is winners in six of the last seven contests to improve to 11-7. This weekend, IWU completed the doubleheader sweep in front of the Homecoming crowds as Indiana Wesleyan also defeated University of Saint Francis on Friday night by a score of 3-1.
Spring Arbor collected the 3-1 win in the first meeting between the two programs on September 8 in Spring Arbor, Michigan. The Cougars are now 9-8 this season with a 7-2 conference mark.
IWU freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes led all players Saturday night with 14 kills. She finished with a .407 hitting percentage, seven digs and three block assists.
Sophomore setter Yui Iwase passed out 35 assists on the evening. Iwase also added 11 digs for Indiana Wesleyan to earn the double-double. Junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger served four aces in the victory and added seven kills with a .353 hitting percentage.
The Wildcats blocked six Spring Arbor attacks on Saturday. Junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson earned four block assists and Rae Brandes contributed three assists.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the court at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6 as IWU travels to play NCAA DII foe University of Indianapolis.
