MARION, Ind. - The Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team used a persistent attack to overcome Goshen (Ind.) College 2-1 on Senior Night on Tuesday at Wildcat Field .
The only goal in the free-flowing first period of play came early for the Wildcats. In the second minute of play sophomore midfielder Lucas Carpenter's shot from just outside the penalty box found the back of the net. Midfielders Austin Bock and Ross Tanzer received credit for an assist on the play.
Goshen would even up the score in the 50th minute when junior Julian Sider cleaned up a loose ball in the penalty box and beat the Wildcat defense for a goal.
IWU senior Austin Bock left his mark on the match capping off the evening with a goal in the 68th minute that proved to be the eventual game-winner. Fellow senior David Trainer crossed the ball to the center of the penalty box where Bock neatly beat the goalkeeper to the right side of the goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Dylan McCauley had another big night for Indiana Wesleyan as he controlled the net with five saves.
On Senior Night, the Wildcats received strong efforts from each of their seniors on the field. Coach Castro said about his senior players, "This class is a true testament to what IWU soccer is all about, producing true men of God that will be the salt and light to the world. Thank you seniors for four outstanding years of commitment to Indiana Wesleyan University."
With the win, IWU improves to 8-8-1 (5-2-0 MCC), while Goshen falls to 5-13-0 (2-6-0 MCC).
The Wildcats final MCC regular season match will be at Grace (Ind.) Collegeon Saturday, October 23 at 4 p.m.
