MARION, Ind. - The
No. 9-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team extended their
season-best winning streak to seven on Tuesday night at Wildcat Field, with a 5-1
win over the University (Ind.) of St. Francis.
The Wildcats once again put together a solid all-around
effort as the dominated every significant offensive statistic. IWU won the
battle of shots 25-6. Indiana Wesleyan also held a large advantage in corner
kicks 9-1.
IWU junior defender Heidi Breckner opened the scoring in the
11th minute with her second goal of the season. Breckner ?s header came on a
corner kick from Megan Marshall.
Indiana Wesleyan sophomore forward Kylie Dial imposed her
will on the game as she recorded 10 shots, while scoring her sixth and seventh
goals of the year in the first half to add to the Wildcat lead.
IWU sophomore forward Kelsey Johnston had a big night as she
recorded three assists on the evening.
University of St. Francis freshman Holly Durkee broke up the
shutout in the 38th minute as she scored unassisted.
IWU senior forward Megan Marshall continued her stellar play
as she contributed a pair of goals to go along with two assists off of corner
kicks. The goals bring her season total to 13, while the two assists take her
to 15 on the season. Marshall leads the MCC in goals and points, and leads the
NAIA in assists.
With the win, IWU improves to 11-2-0 (4-0-0 MCC), while St.
Francis drops to 3-11-0 (1-3-0 MCC).
The victory marks IWU women's soccer head coach Dr. John
Bratcher's 475th career win.
The Wildcats next match will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, October
15, as they travel to Mishawaka to take on the Bethel (Ind.) College Pilots.
