Box Score MARION, Ind. -- In front of a large crowd Friday night in Luckey Arena the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team defeated University of Saint Francis (Ind.) by a 3-1 score in the first of two Homecoming matches this weekend.
Volleyball opened up the Homecoming weekend athletic slate Friday night with a four set victory by scores of 25-17, 24-26, 25-13 and 25-23. IWU returns Saturday night at 5 p.m. to wrap up the athletic weekend with a home match against Spring Arbor (Mich.) University at Luckey Arena.
With Homecoming festivities kicking off today, Luckey Arena had one of its large
st crowds of the season. The fans were treated to another Wildcat win as IWU moves its' Mid-Central College Conference record to over .500 for the first time this season at 4-3. The Wildcats have won three straight conference matches and now stands 10-7 overall.
Freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes continued her stellar player during her rookie campaign for Indiana Wesleyan. Brandes led the Wildcats with team highs of 15 kills and 14 digs. The Twin Lakes, Wisconsin native finished with a .256 hitting percentage and two block assists.
Junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger and junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson each contributed nine kills in the victory. Thompson accumulated a .368 hitting percentage and also collected three block assists and two aces. Sophomore setter Yui Iwase compiled a game-high 44 assists.
Saint Francis falls to 4-7 on the season and 2-6 in the MCC.
Indiana Wesleyan will look to avenge an earlier loss this season when IWU hosts Spring Arbor tomorrow night at 5 p.m. in Luckey Arena.
