Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- Defense once again keyed another win for the No. 6-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats topped host Grace (Ind.) College 57-40 in Winona Lake, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan forced Grace to just 29.2-percent (14 of 48) shooting and out-rebounded them 39-to-28. Grace shot 14.3-percent (1 of 7) from behind the 3-point line and the Lancers had no players in double digit scoring.
Wildcat junior forward LeAnn Douglas earned her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The 10 rebounds matches a career high set last season.
Elaine Hessel led all players with 15 points. She hit on 7-of-11 shots and pulled down four boards. Sophomore forward Stephanie Burtch added 11 points off the bench and junior guard Kayla Thompson contributed six points, six rebounds and five assists.
Indiana Wesleyan connected on 44.9-percent (22 of 49) of their shots from the floor and had 14 assists as a team.
The win for Indiana Wesleyan is the seventh straight as IWU improves to 18-3 on the season. Indiana Wesleyan ups their Mid-Central College Conference record to 7-0 and maintains a two game lead in the conference with one game remaining in the first round of MCC contests.
Grace drops to 7-14 overall and 3-5 in conference action.
The Wildcats will return to the court at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20 as Indiana Wesleyan will play at MCC rival Taylor (Ind.) University in Upland, Indiana.
