Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Best of the Best Tournament opened with a bang for the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team on Friday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Wildcats won a five set thriller over Cedarville (Ohio) University (6-13) in their first of four matches this weekend. IWU won by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-6.
Freshman outside hitter Rachel Quackenbush accumulated 14 kills in the victory and sophomore setter Kelsey Masuda dished out 22 assists. Junior defensive specialist Taryn Cocallas collected 14 digs while freshman middle hitter Michelle Hurt earned five block assists. Sophomore middle hitter Lauryn Barfell led the team with three service aces.
The nightcap for Indiana Wesleyan ended in a 0-3 loss to No. 14-ranked Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University. The Tigers (11-6) won the three-set match by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-13.
IWU sophomore opposite hitter Kate Denlinger contributed seven kills while Masuda passed 10 assists. Cocallas finished the match with seven digs in the losing effort.
Indiana Wesleyan finished the Best of the Best Tournament tomorrow with a pair of matches. The Wildcats battle Campbellsville (Ky.) University at 9 a.m. and Trinity International (Ill.) University at 3 p.m.
