Box Score MARION, Ind. (Box Score) -- Junior midfielder Brittany Smith scored both Indiana Wesleyan University goals en route to a 2-1 victory over visiting Asbury (Ky.) College on Saturday night at Wildcat Field.
All three goals in the match happened in the second half as Indiana Wesleyan improves to 3-1-0 on the season. Asbury falls to 2-4-0.
Smith scored the first goal of the match in the 48th minute off an assist from freshman forward Kylie Dial. Sophomore forward Suzy Miesse assisted Smith on her second tally of the night as the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the 86th minute of action.
Asbury finally broke through the Indiana Wesleyan defense less than two minutes later to cut the deficit in half at 2-1 in the 88th minute. But the Wildcat defense held over the final two minutes for the 2-1 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Beth Anne Nowak earned the win in net with three saves. Indiana Wesleyan outshot Asbury 21-8 on the night and put nine shots on the Asbury goal.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15 as the Wildcats travel to play Ohio Dominican College.
