Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- The second day of the PPG Sports Wildcat Classic is complete as the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team split their pair of matches on Saturday afternoon.
Indiana Wesleyan defeated University of Michigan-Dearborn 3-0 but lost the final match of the tournament 3-2 to University of Northwestern Ohio.
The Wildcats swept through Michigan-Dearborn by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 in their first IWU match of the afternoon.
Freshman Brooke Atwell led the team with seven kills and assisted on two blocks. Sophomore Kelsey Masuda collected 11 digs and freshman Yui Iwase passed out 28 assists. Sophomore Kate Denlinger served four aces as the Wildcats earned eight in the match. Another sophomore, Lauryn Barfell, contributed two solo blocks and four block assists.
Indiana Wesleyan (3-8) jumped out to a quick 2-0 advantage against Northwestern Ohio with set victories of 25-20 and 25-21. But the Racers stormed back to win three consecutive sets by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 15-10 to cap the win.
Ziegler led Indiana Wesleyan with 15 kills and freshman Michelle Hurt added 11. Iwase dished out 46 assists and served two aces. Masuda tallied 22 digs for team-high honors while junior Taryn Cocallas followed with 19.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the court at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15 as the Wildcats host their first Mid-Central College Conference match of the season as IWU plays Goshen (Ind.) College in Luckey Arena.
