Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. (Box Score) -- Houghton (N.Y.) College blanked the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team on Friday night in a neutral site contest in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Both teams registered many shots in the contest, but Houghton capped the victory with an early goal in the first half and a late goal in the second half for the 2-0 win. The teams combined for 29 shots.
Dan Brubaker scored the eventual game-winning goal for Houghton (2-3-0) in the 12th minute of play. Houghton outshot Indiana Wesleyan 10-5 in the opening period and held a slim 1-0 advantage at intermission.
Indiana Wesleyan (1-4-0) fought back in the second half and tallied 10 shots compared to four for Houghton. But Houghton was able to register their second goal in the 86th minute to secure the victory.
Wildcat senior goalkeeper Spenser Lang saved five of the seven shots that Houghton put on goal. But his counterpart, Steve Zacchigna, blocked all nine shots on goal that he faced to earn the shutout.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the pitch to battle Judson (Ill.) University at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 in Mishawaka, Indiana.
