MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball opened the PPG Sports Wildcat Classic on Friday in Luckey Arena with a pair of losses to University of Saint Francis (Ill.) and Malone (Ohio) University.

Indiana Wesleyan lost their tournament opener 3-1 to Saint Francis. After IWU earned a 25-21 victory in the first set, Saint Francis roared back to win the next three by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-20.

As in the first match, the Wildcats opened their second match with a win by a 25-18 margin against Malone. The Pioneers would win the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21. Malone ends the first day of play unbeaten.

In other action inside Luckey Arena, University of Northwestern Ohio defeated Bethel (Ind.) College 3-0 and then beat Goshen (Ind.) College 3-1. Malone earned a 3-0 victory over University of Michigan-Dearborn and Goshen also defeated UM-Dearborn, 3-2. Bethel collected a five set win over Saint Francis.

The tournament resumes on Saturday at 10 a.m. Indiana Wesleyan will compete at 12 p.m. against Michigan-Dearborn and end the tournament at 4 p.m. with a contest against Northwestern Ohio.
