Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. (Bethel Box, Taylor Box) -- Indiana Wesleyan was eliminated from the Mid-Central College Conference Softball Tournament today with a pair of losses.
The No. 5-seed Wildcats lost an 11-1 decision to top-seed Bethel (Ind.) College in five innings and lost to No. 7-seed Taylor (Ind.) University 1-0 in an elimination game to cap the long day of softball.
In the first game of the day for Indiana Wesleyan, the Wildcats had no answer for Bethel who scored in each inning for the mercy rule victory. A three run home run in the bottom of the fifth ended the game.
Shortstop Morgan Wheeler racked up half of the Wildcats' hits with a 2-for-3 performance. Centerfielder Tamara Davis ended 1-for-3 with a RBI and first baseman Molly Yothment connected on a double.
The final game of the day started at 10 p.m. at Taylor bounced Indiana Wesleyan 1-0 in an elimination game.
The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning. A Lindsey Arnold single turned into a runner at third base on an error. The next batter, Alyssa Brodbeck, hit a sacrifice fly deep down the right field line to easily score Arnold.
Indiana Wesleyan had chances to score in the game. Abbie Forman was thrown out at the plate early in the game and with two outs in the seventh, the DP Katie Brummett doubled deep to centerfield. She would be left stranded at second to end the game.
IWU starting pitcher Abbie Forman pitched a strong game for the Wildcats. She allowed one unearned run in the complete game. She scattered seven hits, walked none and struck out four.
The final four teams in the tournament are Bethel, Marian (Ind.) College, Spring Arbor (Mich.) University and Taylor. First game for Thursday is scheduled for 10 a.m. between Bethel and Marian in a game between the final two unbeaten teams in the tournament.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 32-18 on the season and will complete their season next week at the NCCAA National Championships in West Palm Beach, Florida.
