Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. (TCC Box, Grace Box) -- Sophomore Kate Hall and freshman Abbie Forman each pitched complete game shutouts on Friday afternoon to lead the Indiana Wesleyan University softball team to two wins during the opening day of the IWU Tournament.
Indiana Wesleyan defeated Trinity Christian (Ill.) College and Grace (Ind.) College, both by 2-0 scores.
The Wildcats plated both runs in the sixth inning during the opening game against the Trolls. Leftfielder Kelsey Decker lined a two out double to score centerfielder Tamara Davis and catcher Molly Yothment for the only runs in the game.
Davis and shortstop Morgan Wheeler each collected two hits for the Wildcats.
Hall was stellar for Indiana Wesleyan on the mound as she gave up two hits and walked one while striking out five Trinity Christian batters.
The second game followed a similar script of the opener as the Wildcats scored two runs late in the game to capture the victory over the Lancers.
Decker once again earned the game-winning hit as she singled home catcher Christy Gibson in the top of the seventh inning after Gibson led off the inning with a double. Decker eventually scored in the inning on a double by third baseman Katie Berkemeier.
Forman matched Hall on the mound by surrendering just two hits in the win. She walked four but struck out five Grace batters.
Davis was the only player in the game to earn multiple hits as she finished 2-for-4. Decker ended 1-for-3 with a RBI and one run scored.
Indiana Wesleyan (26-13) will complete the tournament on Saturday with a 10 a.m. tilt with Huntington (Ind.) University and a 2 p.m. showdown with Goshen (Ind.) College.
