Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. (Box 1, Box 2) -- Indiana Wesleyan University and Huntington (Ind.) University split a Mid-Central College Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Marion.
Huntington shutout Indiana Wesleyan 3-0 in the first game but IWU responded with a 5-4 victory in the second game with a late rally.
In the opener, Huntington scored all three runs of the game in the sixth inning. Huntington out-hit Indiana Wesleyan 7-to-5.
Katie Hall pitched the entire game for the Wildcats. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits and had three punch outs.
Shortstop Morgan Wheeler reached base three times for Indiana Wesleyan. Wheeler went 2-for-3 with a walk
The second game was capped by a late Indiana Wesleyan rally for a 5-4 victory.
Huntington held a 4-1 advantage heading into the sixth inning. Indiana Wesleyan scored one run in the sixth as IWU trailed 4-2 going into their final at bat. Indiana Wesleyan plated three runs in the seventh to earn the split with Huntington.
Abbie Forman was the winning pitcher as she allowed four runs -- one earned -- in the complete game. Forman walked one and struck out six batters.
Catcher Christy Gibson paced the Indiana Wesleyan offensive attack. Gibson was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Designated player Katie Brummett was 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while centerfielder Tamara Davis ended the game 2-for-4 with two runs.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 22-13 on the season and 5-7 in MCC action. Huntington now stands 16-12 with a 4-6 conference record.
The Wildcats will next play at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14 as the Wildcats travel to play University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
