Box Score 2 SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Spring Arbor University defeated Indiana Wesleyan University 2-1 in both games in Mid-Central College Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
Spring Arbor (10-10, 2-0 MCC) only collected five hits on the day, but hit three home runs combined with excellent pitching for the doubleheader sweep.
In the opener, Katie Brummett earned two of the four Indiana Wesleyan hits. She raked a double and scored the only IWU run. Third baseman Katie Berkemeier and catcher Molly Yothment each rapped out a single in the losing effort.
Starting pitcher Nicole Clark limited the Cougars to three hits, but two were home runs to account for the 2-1 loss.
The second game also finished 2-1 despite Wildcat starting pitcher Abbie Forman giving up two hits.
The first Spring Arbor run came from a single which eventually crossed the plate on an error. A home run accounted for the other SAU run.
Forman cracked her third home run in four games and shortstop Morgan Wheeler tallied three hits as the Wildcats out-hit the Cougars 4-2.
Indiana Wesleyan (18-9, 1-3 MCC) returns to action at home on Tuesday, March 31 with a MCC doubleheader with Grace (Ind.) College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
