Softball and Indiana Tech Split Doubleheader

MARION, Ind. (Box 1, Box 2) -- Indiana Wesleyan University split a softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon with visiting Indiana Tech at Wildcat Field.

The Warriors captured a 3-0 shutout in the opener while the Wildcats rebounded for a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.

Indiana Wesleyan was limited to just five hits in the first game and left fielder Kelsey Decker earned two of them. First baseman Abbie Forman, center fielder Tamara Davis and catcher Molly Yothment also collected a hit. Forman reached base three times as she drew two walks.

Indiana Tech scored twice in the second inning before adding another run in the sixth.

Nicole Clark was the losing pitcher for Indiana Wesleyan as she allowed three runs on six hits in 4-2/3 innings pitched.

The Wildcats picked up the split in the second game with a 5-2 victory.

The Warriors struck first with a run in the first. IWU responded with a pair of runs in the second and would not trail again. Indiana Wesleyan scored one run in each of the next three innings to grab the eventual 5-2 victory.

All nine Wildcats in the starting lineup earned at least one hit in the game. Forman, Yothment and Decker all knocked out two hits a piece.

Right fielder Allison Reichard led the team with two RBIs and third baseman Laura Stonitsch scored two runs.

Forman earned the win on the mound for Indiana Wesleyan. She allowed two runs - 1 earned - on seven hits in a complete game. Forman struck out five and did not allow a walk.

Indiana Wesleyan improves to 16-7 on the season. IWU will next play on Friday, March 27 as the Wildcats travel to play Siena Heights (Mich.) University.
