Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball head coach Steve Brooks announces his first signing for the 2009-2010 basketball season. Taylor Goshert, a four year starter and letter winner at Wawasee High School, has signed a letter of intent to further her education and play basketball at IWU.
Goshert is a 5-8 guard and is currently averaging 18.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during her senior season at Wawasee to go along with 2.7 assists and 3.9 steals. While helping lead the team to a 19-3 record, a Northern Lakes Conference championship, and the No. 6 ranking in 3A in the ICGSA poll, Goshert has shot 46-percent from the field, 36-percent from 3-point range, and 84-percent from the free throw line.
For her success on the court her junior year, Goshert was named Second Team All-State and was an Indiana Junior All-Star. Goshert was also honored as the All-Area Player of the Year following both her junior and senior years and has been named to the All-Area team for three years. Goshert was also named to the All-Northeast Indiana First Team after her junior season and has been named to the All-Northern Lakes Conference Team the last two seasons. Goshert was also recently nominated as a McDonald's All-American candidate.
Goshert has also left her mark on the Wawasee record book as she ranks second in program history in points, steals and free throw percentage and then fifth in rebounds.
In addition to her success on the basketball court, Goshert has also excelled in golf and softball. Goshert holds the Wawasee golf nine hole and 18 hole records and was a sectional medalist her senior year.
Goshert said, "I chose to attend IWU because I loved everything about the school and the basketball team. I felt so welcomed by everyone and I feel like this program is a perfect fit for me. It is close to home and I wanted to be able to play at a high level and have the chance to compete for a national championship. IWU will not only challenge me on the court but also in the classroom and will also help me grow in my Christian faith."
"We are so excited Taylor has decided to further her education at Indiana Wesleyan University," said head coach Steve Brooks. "She could have chosen an NCAA DI school and competed very well. In Taylor, we have an explosive offensive player who can shoot the three but may be as dangerous slashing to the basket. She brings a strong work ethic and loves to compete. She has been well coached at Wawasee and will fit in nicely with our team. Our current players are so excited that Taylor is joining the Lady Wildcat Basketball program and that speaks volumes!"
The IWU basketball team is currently 18-8 and ranked No. 18 in the country. In 2006-07, the Lady Wildcats completed a 38-0 season by winning the NAIA National Championship.
