Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- NAIA Division I No. 10-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) University earned an 81-72 victory over the Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in the final contest of the Campbellsville Tournament in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
Junior forward Elaine Hessel and junior guard Kayla Thompson accounted for a majority of the Wildcat points against the much taller Tigers. The duo combined for 49 of the 72 IWU points as Hessel scored 25 and Thompson contributed 24 points.
Hessel was able to get to the free throw line 10 times and hit on eight shots while Thompson did her damage from the outside with six three-pointers on 12 attempts. She also pulled down six boards, dished
five assists and had five steals.
NAIA DII No. 8-ranked Indiana Wesleyan received production from the bench on Saturday as freshman forward Taylor Goshert had six points and seven rebounds, five on the offensive end. Sophomore center Krystal Stoneking added four points and seven rebounds.
Campbellsville was led by three players who scored 71 of the team's 81 points. Leading all players in scoring was 6-3 center Whitney Ballinger with 27 points and nine rebounds. Guard Courtney Danis finished with 25 points and guard Melly Heaton tossed in 19.
Indiana Wesleyan falls to 11-3 on the season while Campbellsville improves to 11-1. Campbellsville's lone loss of the season came to national power and NAIA DI No. 1-ranked Union (Tenn.) University.
The Wildcats will not play again until after Christmas. IWU will travel to West Palm Beach, Florida for the Northwood Tournament on December 29-30.
