SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball rebounded with a convincing 67-47 victory over Aquinas (Mich.) College in the MCC/WHAC Challenge at Spring Arbor, Michigan the day after suffering their first loss of the season.
The Wildcats dominated the first half en route to the 20 point victory. IWU held a 29-15 lead at the break.
Senior center Zach Coverstone led the Wildcats with 21 points, 14 coming in the opening period. He shot 10-of-14 from the field and pulled down four boards. Coverstone helped Indiana Wesleyan outscore Aquinas 40-16 in the paint.
Freshman guard Aaron Martin shot 4-of-6 from deep for 14 points off the bench and freshman forward Patrick Hopkins pulled down nine rebounds to go along with seven points. The Indiana Wesleyan bench outscored it counterpart by a 25-8 margin.
IWU shot well all game long as the Wildcats shot 50.0-percent or better during both halves. In all, IWU shot 52.0-percent (26 of 52) and 37.5-percent (6 of 16) from 3-point range.
No. 9-ranked Indiana Wesleyan now stands 4-1 on the season while Aquinas falls to 2-2. Aquinas is receiving votes in the current NAIA national poll.
Indiana Wesleyan will open the home schedule their next time out. IWU will host Indiana Tech at approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17 at Luckey Arena. The game will proceed the women's basketball game against IU-South Bend at 6 p.m. Indiana Tech is receiving votes in the NAIA poll.
