Box Score Spring Arbor, Mich. -- Cornerstone (Mich.) University handed the Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team their first loss of the season in a battle of ranked opponents at the MCC/WHAC Challenge in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
Indiana Wesleyan is ranked No. 9 and Cornerstone No. 16 in the NAIA Division II Preseason Top-25 Coaches Poll. Both teams are now 3-1 on the season.
The Wildcats held a slim one point lead (28-27) at the half despite shooting just 35.5-percent (11 of 31) from the floor.
Cornerstone outscored Indiana Wesleyan 41-36 in the second half in large part to free throws. The Golden Eagles shot 17-of-25 from the charity stripe during the second half and 23-of-33 for the game. The Wildcats took only 15 free throws all night and made 10 of them.
Three Wildcats scored in double figures, led by senior center Zach Coverstone and junior forward Will Hubertz with 15 points apiece. Hubertz added seven boards and Coverstone pulled down six. Senior guard Spencer Harris contributed 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting with five rebounds and three assists.
Freshman guard George Jones IV chipped in with seven points off the bench and was 3-of-5 shooting. Sophomore guard Derrick Troyer pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Indiana Wesleyan will conclude the MCC/WHAC Challenge on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Aquinas (Mich.) College.
