Box Score UPLAND, Ind. (Box Score) -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball won the first two sets against No. 17-ranked Taylor (Ind.) University but fell short in the upset bid and lost 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Upland, Indiana.
The Trojan Challenge provided a rare non-conference contest between the two Grant County rivals which nearly ended with the Wildcats gaining a huge late season victory.
Indiana Wesleyan won the first two matches by scores of 25-23 and 25-23 to take a 2-0 advantage. Taylor clawed back with a 25-15 win and then scraped out a 28-26 win to force a fifth set. Taylor completed the comeback with the 15-6 victory.
IWU senior outside hitter Kelli Ziegler totaled 24 kills en route to a .322 hitting percentage. She also added four solo blocks and one block assist. Junior libero contributed 21 digs and two service aces while freshman setter Yui Iwase earned 56 assists and a pair of aces.
The Wildcats fall to 11-30 while the Trojans up their record to 29-5.
Indiana Wesleyan completes the regular season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 5 as the Wildcats travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to battle Indiana Tech.
