MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball earned a split on Saturday at the IWU Invitational in the Intramural Activity Center.

The Wildcats (8-23) were quite impressive during their 25-23, 19-25, 25-13 and 25-17 victory over the St. Xavier (Ill.) University in the opening match of the morning. In the invitational finale, IWU dropped a 3-1 decision to McKendree (Ill.) University by scores of 25-20, 16-25, 20-25 and 25-27.

IWU senior outside hitter Kelli Ziegler totaled a .400 hitting percentage en route to a team best 15 kills against St. Xavier. Ziegler also added 10 digs and four service aces while the team served 13 aces in total in the winning effort. Freshman setter Yui Iwase earned 37 assists and 10 digs with sophomore middle hitter Lauryn Barfell had four block assists.

Against McKendree, Barfell and Ziegler had team highs with 13 kills. Ziegler added 17 digs while Barfell also had one solo block and four block assists. Iwase passed out 40 assists, 12 digs and four block assists.

St. Xavier now stands at 12-13 and McKendree is 11-10.

Indiana Wesleyan returns to the court at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14 as the Wildcats hit the road to play at University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
